Samsung shows these as the word Error, a hash sign and the code, for example Error #U1-2320, followed by either Call for service or Turn off then on. The code is a letter and a digit, a dash, then four more characters. In the toner codes, the digit after the dash gives the colour: 2 for yellow, 3 for magenta, 4 for cyan and 5 for black. Write the whole code down before you do anything else.
Before you call
- Write down the full code and the words after it, and what the machine was doing when it appeared.
- If the panel says Turn off then on, switch off at the power switch, wait a minute, and switch back on. Do it once.
- If the code comes back, or the panel says Call for service, stop there. Repeated restarts will not fix the cause, and the fuser area runs hot.
- Call us with the code and the model. The code tells the technician which parts to bring.

Messages that are not faults
A toner cartridge is under ten per cent, or has run out. Not a fault: fit a new cartridge. On a service agreement, order it from the customer portal.
The machine has not accepted that cartridge. Print the supplies information report to see what it reads, and replace the cartridge.
The waste toner container is full, or is not seated. Not a fault, but replace or reseat it before printing carries on.
Paper stopped as it fed from that tray. Clear it gently. Repeat jams from the same tray usually mean worn pick up or reverse rollers.
Paper stopped inside the machine. Open the rear cover and clear it gently, as the fuser area can be hot. Call if it keeps happening in the same place.
Load paper. If the tray is full and the message stays, the paper empty sensor needs a look.
Clear the output tray. If it is empty and the message stays, the bin full sensor needs attention.
A cover is open, usually the front cover. Close it firmly. If the message stays with the cover shut, the cover sensor needs a technician.
Another device on your network has the same IP address, or the 802.1x settings do not match your network. A settings change, not a fault in the machine.
The room is outside the temperature range the machine works in. Check it is not beside a heater, an air conditioner outlet or a sunny window. If the room is fine, the sensor needs a look.
