Epson business inkjets are all through Brisbane, from WorkForce and WorkForce Pro machines in offices and shops to EcoTank printers at reception desks and SureColor large format printers in design and building firms. We service them on site, casual or on a service agreement.
An inkjet is not repaired the way a laser is. There is no fuser or drum. Instead there is a print head, a carriage that carries it across the page on a belt, an ink system that caps and cleans the head, and a maintenance box that catches the waste ink. Most Epson calls come back to one of those, or to the paper pickup. The sections below use Epson's own names for each.
The Epson machines we repair in Brisbane
WorkForce WF-7620, WF-7610 and WF-7110.
The WF-7620 and WF-7610 add a scanner, document feeder and fax to the same print mechanism as the WF-7110 printer. Carriage and paper feed errors, pickup rollers and the maintenance box are the usual work.
WorkForce Pro printers and multifunctions.
Epson's office inkjets for steady daily volumes. Print head cleaning, paper pickup and the maintenance box are what we see most.
WorkForce Enterprise multifunctions.
Epson's high volume office machines. Serviced on site, with the paper feed and document feeder the usual wear.
EcoTank printers and multifunctions.
Filled from ink bottles instead of cartridges. Blocked nozzles, paper feed and waste ink are the usual calls, and we will tell you plainly when a small EcoTank is not worth the repair.
SureColor large format printers.
Wide printers for plans, posters and signage. Print head, carriage and ink system work, done where the printer stands.
What goes wrong on a Epson, in Epson's terms
Banding, missing lines, a colour dropping out, and the 0x97 and 0x9A to 0x9E codes for head voltage and temperature faults. A clean first, and a new printhead only when cleaning will not bring it back.
The maintenance box catches the ink used in head cleaning. When the printer's count reaches its limit, it stops with a Maintenance error until the box, and on some models the porous pads under the paper guide, are replaced and the counter is reset.
The cap and wiper that seal and clean the printhead between jobs. A dirty cap or wiper shows up as poor print quality, and valve or clutch faults as 0x68 and 0x69.
Epson's name for the carriage and the belt that drives it. The 0xE codes, often a scrap of paper or a foreign object in its path, a dirty CR scale, or a belt that has slipped a tooth.
The PF roller that moves paper under the head and the pickup rollers in each cassette. Misfeeds, double feeds, and the 0xF and 0xD codes when a drive is overloaded or out of step.
On multifunction models, the ADF unit and its pad, and the scanner's CIS unit. Originals that skew or double feed, streaky scans, and the codes from 0x01 to 0x4E.
Circuit and driver faults, and firmware updates when a printer is not behaving the way it should.
Epson printers that drop off the network after a router change, fixed in settings rather than parts.
Epson error codes we are called to
Quote the code on the panel when you book. It tells the technician which part of the machine to look at, and which parts to bring.
| Code | What it points to |
|---|---|
| 0xE1 to 0xEF | The CR unit, or carriage, stalled, slipped or lost its position. Paper or a foreign object in its path is one cause. |
| 0xF1 to 0xFF | The paper feed drive was overloaded or out of step. Causes include a jam, a slipped belt or a dirty encoder scale. |
| 0xD1 to 0xDF | The pickup drive for the second cassette was overloaded or out of step. |
| 0x97, 0x9A to 0x9E | Printhead voltage, temperature and circuit faults, pointing at the printhead or the main board. |
| 0xB0 to 0xCF | Ink device errors: the printer could not read an ink cartridge or its contacts. |
| 0x01 to 0x4E | Document feeder and scanner drive errors on multifunction models. |
| Maintenance error | The waste ink count has reached its limit. The maintenance box and possibly the waste ink pads need replacing and the counter reset. |

Common questions
Can I clear an Epson printer error myself?
Sometimes. Switch the printer off, open the scanner unit or printer cover, and look for jammed paper or anything caught in the carriage path. Remove it gently without forcing the carriage, then switch back on. Ink, maintenance box and paper messages are yours to sort out too. If the same 0x code comes back, book a call and quote it.
My Epson says Maintenance error. What does that mean?
The printer counts the waste ink it has used for cleaning, and it has reached its limit. A new maintenance box is the first step. On models such as the WF-7620 series, the porous pads under the paper guide may also need replacing and the counter reset, which is a technician's job.
Do you service EcoTank printers?
Yes, and WorkForce, WorkForce Pro, WorkForce Enterprise and SureColor printers too, whether or not the printer came from us.
Is an Epson inkjet worth repairing?
A WorkForce Pro, WorkForce Enterprise or SureColor usually is. For smaller desktop inkjets it depends on the fault, and we will say so plainly before any work goes ahead if a repair would cost more than the printer is worth to you.
Where in Brisbane do you attend?
