Sharp shows these as a main code and a sub code joined by a dash, for example H4-00. The main code is a letter and a number, or two letters, and it tells you the area: H for fusing, F2 for toner and process, C for charging and transfer, L for motors and the scanner, U for memory and options. Write the whole code down before you do anything else.
Many Sharp codes are held in memory after the fault is fixed and have to be cancelled in simulation mode, Sharp's service mode. That is why switching off and on will not clear a fusing code, a tray lift code or a U2 memory code, even when it looks like it should.
Before you call
- Write down the full code, both parts, for example H4-00, and what the machine was doing when it appeared.
- Switch off at the main power switch behind the front cover, wait a minute, and switch back on. Some communication codes clear this way.
- If it comes back, or it is a fusing code starting with H, stop there. Repeated restarts will not fix the cause, and the fusing area runs hot.
- Call us with the code and the model. The code tells the technician which parts to bring.

Messages that are not faults
A toner cartridge is running out. Not a fault: have a new one ready. On a service agreement, order it from the customer portal.
A cartridge is empty. When black runs out the machine stops printing. When a colour runs out it can still print in black and white until you replace it.
The waste toner box is nearly full. The machine keeps printing for now, but stops when it is full, so replace it soon.
The machine's maintenance counter has reached its set count. Book a service. Depending on how it is set, it may keep printing or stop.
A wear part has reached its page count: TK1 is the primary transfer unit, FK1 the fusing belt, DK the black drum and VK the black developer. Book a service so it is fitted before it causes a fault.
Follow the panel to the jam and clear it gently. The machine logs a jam code each time, which tells a technician which sensor saw it, so call if it keeps happening in the same place.

Common questions
What is a trouble code on a Sharp?
It is the machine reporting a fault it has found in itself. The main code, such as H4, says which area of the machine the fault is in, and the sub code after the dash narrows it to the exact condition.
How do I clear a trouble code on a Sharp?
Switch the machine off at the main power switch, wait a minute, and switch it back on. That clears some communication codes. Fusing codes, tray lift codes and most memory codes are held by the machine until a technician fixes the cause and cancels them in simulation mode.
What does H4-00 mean on a Sharp?
The fusing unit did not reach its working temperature. It is a safety code, so it will not clear with a restart. The usual causes are the heater lamp, the thermostat, a thermistor, or an interlock switch.
Why does my Sharp keep showing the same trouble code?
A code that returns after a restart means the cause is still there, and many Sharp codes stay stored until they are cancelled in simulation mode. Write down the full code and book a technician.
Checked against the Sharp MX-3050N, MX-3060N and MX-3070N series service manual, which covers the MX-3550N to MX-4070N as well. Other Sharp MX machines use the same code families, though individual codes vary a little between models. DSA is an independent service provider.
