Fuji Xerox is now Fujifilm: what it means for servicing your copier

The name on the front changed in 2021. The machines, the codes and the parts they need did not.

Plenty of offices still have a machine with Fuji Xerox on the front, and plenty more have a newer one with Fujifilm on it. We are regularly asked whether the change matters for servicing, for parts, or for the error codes on the screen. Here is what actually changed, and what did not.

What happened to Fuji Xerox

Fuji Xerox began as a joint venture between Fujifilm and Xerox. Fujifilm announced in November 2019 that it would buy Xerox's remaining 25% share, which gave Fujifilm full ownership. The technology agreement between the two companies ended on 31 March 2021, and from April 2021 Fuji Xerox became FUJIFILM Business Innovation. In Australia, Fuji Xerox Australia became FUJIFILM Business Innovation Australia.

Fujifilm said at the time that existing Fuji Xerox branded devices could continue to be used, and that after sales service and maintenance would continue as set out in existing contracts.

What it means for the machine in your office

For servicing, very little. A Fuji Xerox DocuCentre or ApeosPort and a newer Fujifilm Apeos are close relatives. They report faults the same way, as a six digit chain link code such as 077-101 or 010-327: the first three digits say which part of the machine raised it, the last three say what kind of problem it is. Codes in the 010 chain come from the Fusing Unit, 071 to 078 from the trays and paper path, 091 to 094 from the drums, toner and transfer, and 005 from the document feeder. Our Fujifilm and Fuji Xerox error code guide lists them in plain words, and which ones a restart may clear.

Xerox branded machines, such as the AltaLink and VersaLink ranges, use the same chain link format, though the exact meaning behind a number can differ between models. That is why our Xerox code guide keeps to the code groups the two share.

Parts, toner and life

A machine does not stop being repairable because its badge changed. What decides whether an older DocuCentre is worth fixing is the same as for any copier: how many pages it has done, whether the fault is a wear part or the controller, and whether parts for that generation can still be had. If a repair would cost more than the machine is worth to you, we say so before any work goes ahead.

Toner and drum cartridges for Fuji Xerox and Fujifilm machines are in our shop, genuine and compatible, and you can find the right ones from the machine's model on our parts by machine page.

Who services it now

Any business that knows these machines can service them. We are an independent service provider and we service Fujifilm, Fuji Xerox and Xerox machines on site, casual or on a service agreement, whoever supplied them. If servicing is already included in an agreement you pay someone else for, we will tell you rather than let you pay twice.

Fujifilm, Fuji Xerox and Xerox are trademarks of their owners and are used here only to describe the machines we service. Industry facts in this article are from Fujifilm's own published information.
